GENERAL INFORMATION CONCERNING WOOD PACKAGING MATERIALS

Please note that many countries now require certified fumigation of all wooden packaging materials.  ASHA Freight is unable to check on departure if these regulations have been complied with. Any fines or delays caused by non-compliance with these regulations will be the responsibility of the shipper. Further details are available at the forestry commission website.

 

Algeria

No personal effects can be sent on consolidations


Angola

Argentina

Australia

Please be aware of new customs regulations regarding reporting of cargo prior to arrival. ASHA Freight’s rates do not include some local charges which are related to customs clearance, such as Customs screening, which vary according to destination. Please be aware that quarantine fees will also apply and timescale for delivery averages 5 – 7 working days. To assist with the clearance of personal effects we would ask that the following is provided at time of shipment:

1. Copy of Travellers passport page with photograph
2. Copies of any visa’s or work permits
3. A detailed packing list
4. An original, completed unaccompanied baggage form signed by the consignee, who must be the traveller/owner of the goods.

Australian Customs & Quarantine procedures often require personal effects to be inspected. Delivery of personal effects cannot be made until both Customs and quarantine procedures are settled by the consignee. Payment can be made by cash or a cheque from an Australian bank account (credit cards are not accepted).  From January 1 2006, all airfreight shipments containing wooden packaging must carry AQIS approved markings.

 

Bangladesh

All House air waybills must be originals and include original 2 for consignee and copy 4 for Delivery receipt. Airport to Door rates are valid up to a maximum CIF value of GBP 20,000.00.

 

Brazil

Please refer to South & Central America. The tax number of the consignee must be shown on all house air waybills.

 

Canada

Please not that Personal Effects cannot be accepted on an Airport to Door service as the Consignee must be present to clear the personal/household effects. Shipments containing alcohol are not allowed unless they have an authorized government Import permit.

 

Canary Islands

Consignees must have a NIF/VAT number to clear personal effects.

 

Chile

China

An original phytosanitary certificate is required for all wood packing. A shipper’s declaration is required in original form for any non-wooden packing. Non compliance will result in delays and fines. All House air waybills must be typed as no hand written house air waybills are permitted. All house air waybills must show the correct Master air waybill and must include Consignee’s telephone number. If a consignee wishes to clear a shipment in a different airport to the one on the master air waybill, the consignee will have to accept any additional charges. All house air waybills must be rated and must also be originals, and original 2’s must be sent forward. House air waybills must be typed. If personal effects are booked on a door to door service, the consignee has to provide copy of their passport with temporary via packing list and the date of entry to Chinese territory.

 

Columbia

Costa Rica

Please refer to “South & Central America” The tax number of the consignee must be shown on all house air waybills.

 

Egypt

All documentation has to be original. Egyptian Customs will impose a fine for any amendment to a house air waybill after its arrival in Egypt. Customs also impose fines if the house air waybill labels do not match the house air waybill. Please ensure that the freight is labelled correctly as these costs will be charged back to the origin station. The fines are currently USD 150.00 each. All House air waybills must be rated. Any shipment addressed to a private individual will result in the individual having to present themselves to Customs before the consignment can be cleared.

Ethiopia

All House air waybills must be originals.

 

Germany

For shipments being delivered to a military base it is imperative for the following information to be included on the house air waybill: Street, Town, Name of Barrack, Name of Person, Full title, and Telephone Number.

 

Ghana

Current requirements are as follows:

1. Apart from Personal Effects, all imports are to be covered by “Final Classification and Valuation Report”
2. The report is to be applied for by the importer with his pro-forma invoice and import declaration from 21 days before the arrival of the goods. 10 days before the arrival of the goods, the final invoices, packing lists, permits, air waybills, bill of lading and other documents should again be submitted to the inspection company for the report to be issued.
3. Verification of values is done from the country of export and this is where we are made to wait when the responses from the origin are not forthcoming to the inspection company.
4. Current tax clearance certificate
5. VAT registration certificate and tax identification number.

These are mandatory requirements importers are finding difficult to supply, making it difficult to provide the service. Free Domicile is not available to Ghana.

 

Greece

All shipments must be sent forward with original shipper’s invoice including both the shipper’s and consignees VAT number. Failure to do so may result in Customs delays and fines. Hand written house air waybills are not allowed. House air waybill must show C status if applicable.

 

Guatemala

Hong Kong

It is a requirement of HK Customs & Carriers Liaisons Group that both the Shippers and Consignees names and addresses are shown on all manifests entering Hong Kong. We therefore request your co-operation in providing this information. Medical preparations can only be accepted on consolidations if the import licence number is provided.

 

Hungary

Personal / Household Effects are not applicable on Airport to Door services.

 

India

Indian Customs now require a Business Identification Number from all consignees – without this there will be delays in the clearance through Customs. Due to Indian Customs regulations, the following points must be followed for all shipments:

1. The weight on the house air waybill, commercial invoice and freight labels must match exactly. Do not show half kilo weights on any documentation. Please also note that all shipments will be check weighed by Indian Customs, and if different to that declared, an amendment fee will be charged.
2. Indian Customs only allow numerical house air waybill numbers. They do NOT accept letters as part of the house air waybill number. Please ensure all documentation complies as amendment fees are charged.
3. Personal Effects shipments must be consigned to an individual, not a company, and the shipper and consignee details must be the same. Consignee passport number must be shown in the Consignee section of the house air waybill. Customs will require production of the Consignee’s passport to clear the goods. Full packing list is required.
4. Personal Effects are not accepted on a Door to Door basis.
5. ASHA Freight will require at least FOUR original copies of the house air waybill. Faxes or photocopies are not acceptable to Indian Customs. The consignee’s telephone number should always be shown on the house air waybill. Original invoices are required.
6. All packages must be labelled to House air waybill level. Any shipments arriving in India not labelled in this way will be liable to a fine from Indian Customs.
7. Shipments in excess of USD300.00 per kilo need to be quoted on separately for Airport to Door services.

 

Indonesia

To comply with Indonesian Customs please supply the following: 
Complete consignee’s address plus telephone numbers are required on all shipments into Indonesia. All documents must be originals including any commercial invoices and packing lists. All consignees in Indonesia must have an import licence otherwise Customs will impose additional charges. All consignees must have an import licence to receive freight. Copy 2 of all house air waybills are required by Indonesian Customs.

 

Iran

Please inform customers of the need to settle local destination charges upon release of the delivery order by the destination agent. All house air waybills must be original, typed and signed. Hand written amendments are not acceptable. All house air waybills must show the correct master air waybill. All house air waybills consigned to an individual must show the First Name / Surname and the ID card number of the individual. Accurate consignee telephone numbers are essential for all shipments. It is important that accurate documentation is provided. Any errors may give rise to Customs fines. Magazines with pornographic pictures or images of alcoholic drinks are forbidden. Shipments of Personal Effects must include a detailed packing list. All To Door shipments must include an original commercial invoice / packing list and certificate of origin. To Door shipments destined to a Free Trade Zone (under transit conditions for final clearance by consignee) must be quoted case by case. All Duty Paid Shipments – DDP must show the following information o the house air waybill: commodity name, tariff number, value and freight amount.

 

Italy

To avoid shipments being snagged, please note the following:

1. CT status must be shown in handling information box as well as top House air waybill.
2. If goods of UK or EEC origin, commercial invoice MUST state “FREE CIRCULATION IN THE EEC”
3. All house air waybills must be typed. Hand written house air waybills are not accepted. An original 2 copy must go forward.
4. All copies of commercial invoices must have an original signature.

 

Japan

All House Air waybills must have consignee telephone number and contact as there is no Directory of Enquiries in Japan! All Personal Effect shipments require a packing list and an unaccompanied baggage form which can be obtained from Japan Airlines or the Japanese consulate.

Korea ( South)

The following items if sent on a To Door basis service, may be subject to delay in clearance and may be liable to high bonded warehouse fees which will be passed onto the consignee: Japan origin goods, used goods, Compact Discs, Computer monitors and printers, Computer parts, Portable phones, Communication equipment, Medicines and Automobile parts. South Korea will not accept liquids in the form of drums or plastic containers. Please be aware of the new wood quarantine rules.


Kuwait


Please note the following ruling from the Kuwait authorities: A penalty charge of KWD 50.00 will be imposed on any amendments/deletions. All shipments must be accompanied by a Certificate of Origin which must be an ORIGINAL copy. The shipper will be responsible for any storage or fines if an original certificate of origin is not provided. It will be the responsibility of the Shipper/Consignee to arrange for any required documents to be sent to destination and to settle any fines/storage involved. All House air waybills must be originals and copy 2 must be forwarded to Kuwait. All House air waybills must be rated at FULL IATA. Personal Effects are not allowed in consolidations.

 

Mauritius

All House air waybills and Invoices must be originals.


Malaysia

Original House air waybills only. No photocopies allowed
Door to Door shipments must show the final destination airport, not the hub i.e. Kota Kinabalu via KUL must show Kota Kinabalu in the destination box
Consignee telephone numbers must be shown on the door to door shipments to avoid high storage charges.

 

Mexico

Nepal

Any shipments addressed to the British Embassy or related to Diplomatic Corps are not accepted in consolidations.


New Zealand

Please be aware of new customs regulations regarding reporting of cargo prior to arrival. For Personal Effects shipments, please be aware that quarantine fees will also apply and the timescale for deliveries averages 5-7 working days. To assist with the clearance of personal effects in New Zealand, the following information is required:

1. Copy of passport with photograph
2. Copy of visa or work permits
3. A letter from the consignee authorising ASHA Freight’s agent in New Zealand to clear the goods on their behalf.
4. All Personal Effects shipments require an Unaccompanied Baggage form signed by the consignee, and a copy of their passport – all pages.

Philippines

All house air waybills must be original.


Pakistan

All house air waybills must be originally signed.
To Door shipments are valid up to a maximum CIF value of GBP 5000.00

Qatar

All House air waybills and invoices must be original, photocopies and laser copies are not permitted. The Top copy of the House air waybill must be signed. An original Certificate of origin and a full packing list is required for all shipments.


Russia

Please ensure that the consignee is able to accept and clear goods prior to shipping of the goods. Failure to do so may result in a shipment being returned and charged for accordingly.

 

Saudi Arabia

The following items cannot be accepted on Airport to Door services:
Alcohol, Communication equipment, Drugs, Electronic equipment, Films, Laser discs, Phones, Modems, Radar equipment & transmitters, Tapes and Videos, Telecommunication equipment, Cosmetics, Foodstuffs, Beverages, Liquids or Powders and Personal Effects.

Consignee telephone numbers must be shown on all House air waybills. Personal Effects must have passport numbers on the house air waybill and be accompanied by a full packing list. All hazardous shipments require a pre-clearance which can take up to 4 weeks.
Airport to Door shipments should have CIF values below US$ 13,000.00.


South Africa

Rates for Airport to Door shipments exclude some local charges which are related to customs clearance, such as Customs screening, which can vary according to destination. Commercial invoices are a requirement for all shipments entering South Africa including Personal Effects. SA Customs require an invoice for the contents with a value before they will release the goods.

All Personal Effects shipments must be sent with a copy passport, packing list and value for customs. The consignee must collect the documents and settle any local charges prior to reporting to Customs in person along with their original passport. The passport must show the relevant departure and arrival stamps and the owner must have been out of the country for at least six months. All to Door shipments for Personal Effects can only be cleared with the consignee’s original passport. No copies allowed.

 

Sri Lanka

All House air waybills must be rated. Customs will not accept “As Agreed”. Personal Effects shipments go to a separate warehouse in Colombo



South & Central America

All House air waybills must be rated, Customs will not accept “As Agreed” Full consignee addresses with contact telephone and/or fax numbers must be shown on the house air waybill. All invoices must be originals and South American Customs will require original packing lists.

Personal Effects shipments to South American destinations must have a packing list and photocopy of the consignees passport. The shipper and consignee must be the same person. Original passport and airline tickets will be required for customs clearance. NO door to door facilities are available for Personal Effects.

It is important that the freight is labelled with the house air waybill and consignee address. Without this Customs may impose fines. Please refer to TACT regulations for all shipments to these regions. Customs fines will be charged to the shipper if the regulations are not followed. Original copy 2 of house air waybills must be sent forward. Brochures, catalogues or publicity materials that are exported to the Americas can attract high rates of duty and taxes.


Sudan

All House air waybills must show the Master air waybill it is travelling under.

 

Switzerland

Please ensure correct EFTA declaration is shown on the invoice with original signature. Example of an EFTA declaration for Switzerland:
“The Exporter of the products covered by this document declares that, except where otherwise clearly indicated, these products are of (state origin of goods)…… preferential origin”

Syria

IMPORTANT NOTE: to comply with Syrian Customs regulations please ensure that all House air waybills follow these instructions:

1. All House air waybills must be typed
2. Correct Master air waybill must be shown on the house air waybill
3. All House air waybills must be rated

 

Tanzania

All House air waybills must be original

 

Taiwan

All amendments to House air waybills after departure must be completed by the airline. This is a Customs Regulation. Carrier charges for this service differ. If a consignee wishes to clear a shipment in a different airport to the one that ASHA Freight consigned it to, the consignee will have to accept all the additional charges. All shipments must be labelled to House air waybill level, or a fine will be imposed by Customs. Customer shipping personal effects to Taiwan must fill in the appropriate form upon arrival at the airport.



Thailand

To comply with Customs regulations all House air waybills must be original, show rate per kilo and total, and must NOT contain any amendments of any kind. Failure to comply will result in heavy fines and delays. All Personal Effects shipments have to be cleared with an original copy of the consignee’s passport. PLEASE NOTE hand written amendments are not permitted. If a House air waybill needs amending after departure, the amendment has to be authorized and completed by the carrier. Charges for this vary according to the carrier.



Turkey

Turkish Customs require original commercial invoices and ATR for clearance with declared value for every shipment. For airport to Door shipments, foodstuffs and beverages require a Control Certificate. Computer parts and communications equipment require a Maintenance and Service certificate. If these are not provided, it will delay customs clearance. For Personal Effects shipments an original copy of the consignee’s passport is required.

 

Uganda

All House air waybills and invoices MUST be originals


United Arab Emirates

All House air waybills must be originals and rated. Please provide a minimum of 4 copies. No handwritten amendments to House air waybills are allowed. Please provide an original commercial invoice with the Shippers stamp and signature.



Uruguay

USA

US Customs will not accept commercial invoices issued by a Forwarder. These invoices must be issued by the Shipper.

PERSONAL EFFECTS
Personal Effects shipments are permissible to the majority of US destinations but must be accompanied by a US Customs form 3299 and a packing list. Please ensure all House air waybills contain full consignee name and address and telephone number otherwise storage charges will be billed to the shipper.

TEMPORARY IMPORT
Goods under Temporary Import cannot be sent as a To Door shipment and must be sent as Airport to Airport.
Please note that should the consignee refuse to give “Power of Attorney” and an alternative agent is engaged to customs clear a shipment, ASHA Freight will not credit any to Door charges on To Door shipments.

 

Venezuela

Zambia

 

Shipment to Ndola and Livingstone must be cleared in Lusaka.


Zimbabwe

All Personal Effects shipments have to be cleared in Harare with the consignee present. Hand written House air waybills are no longer accepted.
